The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
